I always thought it was rubber or plastic, but it turns out there aluminum so if you do see a crack it's likely to be all the way through.

also the intake flange between the carb and the cylinder on my 185 cracked through and there's another oring to check on the head side of it. Other things to check: is the slide in backwards, and do you have any air leaks? I had the oring on the flange like to fall out of place on one carb once. On the 200x card the spring clip i got did seem tight but plyers solved that issue easily. It never happened to me, but maybe its what you had. On my 185s I found the needle loose like yours, if I rember right it is soppose to be secured to the slide with that clip with a spacer, and if the needle is loose it can catch on the seat and not fall into place corect then it may let fuel through the main jet at idle. I would have never got it right without that picture.

My manual showed a similar carb to what I had but some of the little parts were missing or in the wrong spot. Get a print out of the honda parts breakdown picture and follow it to find out where all those spare parts go.

My 185 started first pull with no problems, and the 200x started third kick, both ran great afterwards. One cost $45 in parts to do, the other was $65. I did rebuild two of those carbs this year, my own and one for buddies 200x, which replaced a ebayer cheepo carb that never worked right. It was a good kit and I got it from dennis kirk, it just didn't work, It even crushed that brass emulsion tube somehow -and that cost as much to replace as the kit- dennis kirk came through and refunded the kit so it wasn't a total loss. I've had trouble with those rebuild kit's for my 185s in the past. I reused the original since it was still sealing properly. There is a very small o-ring and washer, and also the float needle valve didn't fit the same as the original one. There were some leftovers from the rebuild kit so i'm not sure if I missed something. does anyone have a diagram of how this goes together? the little 'V' shaped deal that goes on the spring I assume acts as a retainer for that needle, but the way I have it set up the needle can move up and down on its own. also the whole thing fell apart when I took it apart so i'm not sure if I got it back together right. the little cylinder that slides up and down doesn't go all the way down. I think the problem may be with the throttle linkage. I picked up a rebuild kit for the carb thinking that would help out, but it's running the same as before. When it is in neutral, the RPMs shoot up really high and I found out the hard way that you shouldn't put it back in gear when it's like that. I've been working on my ATC185 and seem to have everything running fine with the exception of the Idle.
